he has a lot of photographic heritage in his family

In recent days photographer Gabriel Ramírez Romagnoli has tried to capture, what he likes instead of his usual photography work, even he feels also his work as wedding photographer as a very beautiful job.

He loves to develop own ideas and to translate them into photos, although he almost has no time to do this kind of ‘own’ pictures, but he doesn’t let pass any opportunity to do so, when he gets the chance for it.

Gabriel’s great-grandfather and one of his children were photographers. His grandfather was a photographer between 1900 and 1905 in Veracruz, Mexico. And according to Gabriel’s grandmother he devoted himself to be a photographer in remote communities. He took the photos out there and then returned to Mexico City to develop and edit the images, which at that time took him several months.

So Gabriel has a lot of photographic heritage in his family, but never realized this until he had a reflex camera in his hands. He doesn’t know why, but somehow it was very easy for him to understand and to work the camera.

When he was 34 years old, he began to study for a degree in photography. Unfortunately it was not possible before due to the poor economic situation that prevailed at home.

In the beginning Gabriel did portrait photography with everyone he could find, until someone suggested to pay him for his work. Of course it was only a small wage, but Gabriel realized, that he can charge for his photography.

So in his photo classes Gabriel was very attentive.   His   teacher   was   old   an,  who   had
Picture
paralyzed half of his body. So he could not give much. However Gabriel asked everything he could. He started developing photos in the dark room with a negative film of a Kodak T-Max 400. This was an amazing experience.

Once back in Mexico City under challenging circumstances with his mother in a hospital with cancer, his Uncle, whose job is to be a doctor and who kindly bore the expenses of hospital for Gabriels mother, invited him to breakfast.

His uncle didn’t understand much, what was happening in Gabriels life at that time, but took him to his office and asked him, what he needs for his studies. Gabriel replied hesitantly, that he would need a camera for about. Immediately his uncle pulled the needed money out of his savings and gave it to Gabriel.

With this money Gabriel bought the Canon Rebel Xti and started to capture everything he could. The Canon was very versatile compared to the analog camera, he had known until then.

Picture
Gabriel just in time bought a 60D, which was the camera, that gave him more flexibility to work at weddings. After that came the 7D Mark II and 7D and 5D.

Today Gabriel teaches at the University, he studied himself and currently is training to grow as a photographer. He still loves to take pictures and occasionally does sessions with models.

she has always loved the beauty in everything

Ever since photographer Shailine Doney can remember, she has always loved the beauty in everything around her. She would paint, sketch, sculpt, or take images of everything, she found beautiful. Shailine, based in Rathdrum, Idaho, United States, has taken art in school since the beginning and finally decided in high school, to try Photography. She started in film, then moved to digital. Shailine would take photos for friends ... senior pictures, birthdays, family photos, newborns and so on.

After high school and having her own baby girl, Shailine  fell off the grid in photography. She met her current boyfriend Jeremy Hammons in 2011, when he decided to go to school for photography. He hated it at first, but he stuck with it. They would talk photography and look at images all the time. When Shailine moved back in 2014 and they got together, he would take her on his photo shoots. Since that first photo shoot Shailine was hooked. She had a huge rush flow through her and her passion for photography flamed up inside of her stronger than before. Shailine has come a long way from when she has started, but she still has so much to learn and is excited to see where she will be in 10 years.

Shailine’s favorite place to shoot is on location, mostly at models homes. Images, that she gets from shoots in the models homes, are more natural and pleasing. The models are kind enough to bring her into their homes and also to homes of their families. Shailine is inspired by her models lives, homes, family, and surroundings.

In her Camera Bag she just has her Canon 6D and Canon 50mm 1.4! Perfecting her 50mm skills! She’s seeing a Sigma 85mm 1.4 art lens in her bag  as   soon  as  they  release  it!  Or  maybe
Picture
even a Sigma 135mm art! Shailine is hoping one day to have the complete set of Sigma Art Lens Line!

The only advise, Shailine can give us on the way, is: „DO NOT EVER STOP LEARNING!!! I believe that  once  you  stop  learning  that  is  when   you  give  up!   Once  you  stop  learning  and   close  your
Picture
mind to learning everyone will pass you and they will get better and better as you fall behind. You will be doing the same thing over and over again. That is boring to me. Things change daily. It is hard to keep up sometimes, even for me. But it is so worth it to learn whats new. New lighting gear and techniques. New higher MP DSLR with 4k video or 8k!!! New and improved lenses! Things are always changing and improving. You cannot keep up or get better when you stop learning. I still have so much to learn and I am loving every minute of it. Do not ever stop learning.“

All started with the Canon F1 of his father

Intoducing Xavier Foulon, who is a French amateur photographer. Also his real job as an art director and graphic designer in advertising is a creative job, what is refelcted by his photographic work.

All started with the Canon F1 of his father. Today Xavier does photography for over 25 years.
Xavier is making a lot of landscape and street scenes. His favorite photographers are Jean-Loup Sieff, Patrick Demarchelier („i love his work“ so Xavier) and Helmut Newton among others, he admires.

Picture

On portrait photography Xavier is focussing really for 3 years. For him doing portrait photos is - above all - a human adventure and an exchange with the model. Xavier is summarizing: „A good photo is first a good time with the person I photograph.“

Photography for Xavier is today his little bubble, when he wants to think about something else. He does not have a professional perspective with photography. He just want to keep it for fun.

His love affair with photography began with a 'supasnaps' camera

23/4/2015

Picture
Hayden Beaumont’s love affair with photography began at an early age, when his mother bought him a small “Supasnaps” film camera. It was a little yellow plastic disposable thing, but Hayden still remembers having a lot of fun taking photos with it.

His next experience with a camera was with his father’s camera. Hayden cannot remember the brand, but it was an SLR, and he wasn’t allowed to touch it without parental supervision! So he felt lucky, when he was allowed to use it.

Hayden bought a small Nikon ‘point and click’ compact 35mm as a teen and bumbled through various similar cameras over the next several years until he married and finally managed to buy his first DSLR camera, the Canon 1000D (Rebel Xs).

He shot his early work with that camera and continues to use it as his backup to this day. It served him well, as Hayden taught himself photography through a combination of study, emulating the work of others, and through trial and error.

His main interests in the beginning were experimentation with lights and night photography, landscapes and ‘skyscapes’, generally because he lacked the confidence to shoot people and portraits.

Hayden’s first real portrait shoot came in 2011, when he asked his sister in law, who was visiting his family from Hawaii, to model for her, so that he could try out his camera technique. That same year he travelled to Utah to visit his wife’s family and that is, when he really began to enjoy trying to capture images of people.

Picture
Over the years he has tried to evolve his interests and come up with new creative ideas. It’s difficult to be original in a saturated market, but he’s always trying to improve on existing trends and ideas. Who knows, one day he might come up with something truly great, that’s the dream, but until then he enjoys what he does.

The  main  inspiration  came  from  a  combination  of a few things.  The  Flickr  community,  who  have
been very helpful over the years. Hayden has drawn inspiration from a lot of people, too numerous to mention as can be seen from the sheer number of people, he follows on Flickr!

Dennis Calvert, Unexpected Tales, Elizabeth Gadd, National Geographic Magazine and Spencer Taylor Studios are probably Hayden’s main sources of inspiration. Whether it be their commitment to their work, technical expertise or great image ideas, he loves their work and often unique styles, some of which he hopes has carried over into his own projects!

Picture
Currently his camera of choice is the Canon 6D. It shoots great in low light, and is sharp as a knife. Hayden also wouldn’t say no to a Canon 5D mk iii though, should someone have one spare!

Most of the work, he does, is TFP (time for prints), and so he has gathered his kit over the years. His favourite lens is the lowly Canon EF 50mm f/1.4, followed closely by the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L series .

Picture
In terms of the future Hayden wants to continue to learn more techniques and improve his photography perhaps with the aim of launching a proper part time business. He’s planning on some more water work, so any models working with him, may be getting a little wet this summer! Plus he’s hoping to shoot some more portrait shoots with themes relating personally to the model. He would also like to experiment with a project idea, he has based around a large selection of headshots in and around North Yorkshire. It will take a little bit of planning, but he’s hoping, it will be successful!

It all started as something to keep him busy

16/4/2015

As he was her only child, Ed Frazier’s mother tried all kinds of things to keep him busy and occupied. Since he wasn’t into sports, she tried a camera as that was something Ed’s father was also interested in. Of course this was pre-digital days, when film was the only option.

Picture
Ed took pictures of everything around him to the point, where he now have boxes and boxes of thousands of pictures and negatives all over his home office. For fun he sent random pictures to anyone, he sent a letter to including bills. For any letter, that were for payments, his thought process was, that whoever opens these envelopes, probably hates their job. So probably getting a random picture from time to time has got to enlighten their day a little. Plus it helps Ed slowly dwindle down his enormous collection of photographs. Since most bills are paid online, that habit no longer works to reduce his collection of photographs.

Most of these pictures were of various landscapes around Northern California, which ist he region, where Ed grew up. Over the time he started venturing into event photography,  which was his entry into working with people. It not only did allow him to increase his comfort level of working with people, he was able to network as well. Ed started working for a website, that helped to promote local business and their events. He was thrilled as he was able to photograph people having fun. Occasionally Ed was able to participate as well, but he got paid on a regular basis.

Approximately 6 years ago Ed moved to Charlotte NC, where he started working with up and coming models in the area. After a few shoots he was hooked! Ed was especially thrilled, when it came to photographing models in abandoned buildings and various other urban settings. The dichotomy of a beautiful woman in an abandoned relic of a building or scenery really captured his imagination.

Currently Ed only shoots part time as a stress relief from his day job. So any shoots, that he does, is usually planned out and in most cases is
Picture
a team effort of other artists (i.e. hairstylists, makeup and wardrobe). However he also enjoys the unplanned spontaneous shoots.

Whenever he shoots, he tries to incorporate a sense of a short story line. All the while trying to showcase the models key attributes within the parameters of the scene, the lighting and wardrobe.

From an equipment perspective Ed recently moved from a Canon 5D Mark II to a Sony A7r. Mainly due to the innovation, that Sony is offering in the photography space. His primary lenses are the 55mm 1.8 and the 35mm 2.8. As more lenses come available, he will most likely add a few more primes.

Picture
Recently he also added a Sony A6000 for more portability and faster focusing over the A7r. So far he’s deeply impressed with this little camera. In some cases it is hard to tell the difference between the A7r and A6000 images! The plus is, that he can use the same lenses on both camera’s since they share the same “E” Mount.

Every now and then Ed also go back to shooting film. He has a variety of 35mm, Polaroid and medium format camera. He likes shooting film since it requires him to slow down and evaluate everything before he takes the shot.

Picture
Overall Ed prefers shooting outdoors as it provides an endless amount of elements to utilize as a part of the image creation. However he also has a studio, that he shares with a few other photographers.

Currently Ed Frazier is based in Charlotte NC and his studio is in Concord NC.

in most peoples’ heads a pro photographer has to carry a ton of gear ... but not rafael

15/4/2015

Picture
4 years ago photographer Rafael Burato started to take some pictures around his city in France with a Nikon D90s. First he did it just for fun, but then started to work more seriously. At that time he created his first Flickr account to show the best of his work. He didn't worked with models at that time. Then his nephew, which is a young photographer, came to France and initiated Rafael’s decision to buy a Nikon D7100. After one month shooting with it, Rafael decided to create invititations     in    his    university,
calling female models for build a portfolio for free through a photo test. After his second shoot he started to go full frame and had the opportunity to sell his camera and buy a D700.

His wife, who at that time was his girlfriend, became his main model and the best photos were taken with her posing.

Today Rafael is working as a photographer for almost two years and he’s creating a freelance company with his wife, who started taken photographs with him for pro photoshoots. Rafael mainly photographs people – portraits, candids and street and he always shoots with his wife as main or second photographer.

For three years he’s been using Nikon gear. First a Nikon D90s, then a Nikon D7100 and most recenty a Nikon D700 with prime lenses such as the Nikon 85mm f/1.4G and Nikon 25mm f/1.4G. He loves the Nikon D700 and those two lenses, but it’s a heavy set up. Sometimes he also adds a Nikon 105mm f/2.5 AI in the bag.

A few months ago Rafael bought a Fujifilm X-E2 to try to lighten his camera bag. More than that he has discovered a
Picture
great little camera with awesome image quality. In addition to that he at that time had only one lens, the Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4/R despite in most peoples’ heads a pro photographer has to carry a ton of gear and has to have big cameras to look real.

To prove to himself, he could do great work with a smaller camera, He decided to shoot an entire series called “Taipei streets” with the Fujifilm X-E2 and the Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4. Nothing else. He wanted to keep it simple and intimate. The Nikon D700 wouldn’t have been a good fit for the series. Too big, too noisy, too loud.

After seeing the results and the great feedback from everyone, Rafael told himself to use the Fuji X-E2 for a paid job, but took the Nikon D700 along with him too just to reassure himself. It worked great and more than that, nobody noticed, he was the “official photographer”. That was it. He used the Fuji for 90% of his pictures sicne then. Most of the time, the Nikon D700 slept in his bag. Then he bought a second lens, the Fujifilm 18mm f/2. He needed a wide angle lens, and this one is just awesome. Sharp and fast.

Picture
Today Rafael is using a Fujifilm X-T1 with 3 prime lenses. He sold the Fujifilm X-E2 and all the Nikon gear. It was a big decision to make, but he did it and doesn’t regret it for one second. Some people told him, it was nuts, but he doesn’t care. He knew, he was right. That was his choice. The Fujifilm X-T1 works great. He shot paid jobs in the last 4 months. It’s fast, accurate and light and ... his camera bag now weighs a quarter of what it did before.

Rafael’s wife has a Nikon D7000, but she will get a X-T1
and she is selling her Nikon gear as well. Other than a new X-T1 they will add to their gear list a Fuji X100T.

They always shoot together and bring music into their shoots. This creates a special atmosphere and their rule number one during their work is: „have fun or don't do it.“

Rafael and his wife Mei are based in Taipei (TW) and Bordeaux (FR).

he  considers himself "Impressionist"

11/4/2015

Sergio Isgleas studied from 1984 on at EDAC (School of Cinematographic Art of Avellaneda).

In the 90`s he performed in various film production companies as a cameraman or in other technical positions, making commercials for many countries around the world.

After several years, in 1996, Sergio started to work independently, making some commercial spots for Bardhall, Honda, Wall Mart, Pirelli and others. From that moment he started doing also some tv stuff like ‚Italians around the world’ for RAI and Fashion TV for three years.

In 2005 he started working on what will be his first feature film "The Invisibles". That allowed him to return to his first love, "photography". And this now has become his main activity.

Picture
Picture
About his work Sergio considers himself "Impressionist", especially in terms of the relationship with the locations. He always allows the place to give him sensations, impressions. But before this he thinks about what he wants to do and what he want to "find".

„Photography is something that you find, more than something that you make plans for it“. Sergio had a teacher, when he was studying cinema, who said "the prior and thorough pacification gives you the chance to capture situations that occur unexpectedly". Sergio remembers and add: „It let us to be alert to the possibilities, to be bound only to the preconceived thing is a mistake for me.
I always check the place, that I am going to work and I think, what I will do, and I always find something that i didn’t expect. The day of the shooting you act, you do not think. And that will be noticed in our work.“

„The same happens with the models“ so Sergio, „you can pretend some attitude but also it is a journey of two people. We must let the models give us the best that they have, even if it is something different from what we expected.

Sergio closed with the words „Before, during and after, I'm a perfectionist damn!!“

If you like Sergio’s photos and interested to work with him, don’t hesitate to contact him.
