It was as often a photo on facebook, that was spotted by our editors. You can see the picture directly here on the right side. Impressed by her style and appearance after having seen this photo of her, taken by photographer Patrick Odermatt, we got in touch and asked Swiss blogger Mia for an interview about her ideas of fashion and her blog "Mia and the mouse". Now you have the opportunity to learn more about model and blogger Mia by reading our interview and taking a look at her photos to see some of the different styles, she's presenting on her fashion, kids and lifestyle blog. |
Mia, can you tell our readers about yourself and your blog?
My name is Mia and I live in Switzerland. I love writing and for more than ten years, I have been modeling which had me develop my love for fashion and styling. In my blog, I focus on fashion, children, and lifestyle. I share stories about things I love and that impact my life. Usually, stories revolve around fashion, street style, modeling, travel, fitness, beauty, and children. These stories from my everyday life as a model, mom, and blogger make up that special mix of my articles.

Describe how did you first get into blogging? What inspired you to start your blog?
For a few years now, I have been following different bloggers and, as I have mentioned earlier, I have a passion for both fashion and writing. This had me thinking about starting my own blog and last year, I finally decided to take the plunge and start my own blog. In my model jobs, I do not have a say in anything, so it was important to me to create something myself outside of my modeling career. I wanted the focus to be on my ideas and my taste in fashion and my blog allows me to fully indulge in my own creativity.
Who has impacted you most in blogging and how? There are many things that influence and inspire my blog posts. I always keep my eyes and ears open. I enjoy drawing, reading magazines and rummaging on Pinterest or Instagram. This leads to many ideas already. I also find inspiration in decorating and interior design. Finally, I have a little daughter who discovers the world clear-eyed and open minded every day. She taught me to pay attention to details and to appreciate the little things in life. Did you have any professional help or did you created the blog yourself? My motto is 'learning by doing', but doing it completely alone would have been very difficult. Luckily, my cousin is a computer scientist and has helped a great deal to create my website. I am learning continuously how to improve and professionalize my blog. It is not yet exactly how I would like to have it, but I am getting there. What was the most challenging moment in your blogging journey so far? The most challenging moment in my blogging journey has definitely been designing the website. As I have no experience or skills in computer science or graphic design, it has cost me many hours of hard work to set up the website to suit my blog. I still spend hours watching and reading tutorials to help me improve the website. While it is not yet perfect, I am proud to say that I have come a long way and am now at a point to be able to fully stand by what I have created. |
Can you tell me about few sources from where you get products for review on your site?
I mainly get the clothes from my closet as I have enough to cover all kinds of different topics and stories. Occasionally, I also work with brands that I really like and that suit my style. When corporating with brands it is important to me to not just write random posts but carefully choose who I work with and, most importantly, if I can fully identify myself with the brand.

Can you name some of your favourite bloggers and explain why they are your favourites?
There are many different bloggers who I follow and who inspire me, but in the end, I do my own thing. Most of the other bloggers are much younger that I am and do not have a child. My life is different now and that is what makes my stories unique. Here are some names of bloggers I follow: Kristina Bazan, Michèle Krüsi, Nina Schwichtenberg, Caro Daur and many others.

Have you met anyone interesting/famous on your blogging journey? I only started blogging last year in autumn. Since then, I have met many interesting people but no international celebrity yet. Is blogging your profession or just a hobby? For now, blogging is just a hobby. Besides my job as a full-time mom, I work as a teacher, I model at the 'time model agency' in Zurich and, of course, I work on my blog. It is often a challenge to juggle everything at once with my daughter having top priority at all times. Hence, I often work in the evening or at night. Who was your first style icon? I cannot really say as there is not one particular person. Pinterest is a great platform to find style ideas without being tied to one person only. Who takes the majority of your photos? I work with different photographers but up until today, I have been working with Jennifer Widmann and Barbara Brutschin a lot. I really like their work! |
What would you say that is the biggest challenge about fashion blogging?
There are thousands of bloggers hence it is extremely difficult to gain and increase awareness for your own blog. I enjoy blogging and that is what is most important for me. I do what I like and what I like to talk about on my blog. My main goal is not to make a profit but the fun I have working on my blog. This is of utmost importance for me and I find you can tell the blogger's motivation by the looks of their blog.

How would you describe your personal style and is there a person who is a fashion inspiration to you?
As mentioned earlier, I do not have a particular person whose style I admire and want to imitate. Individuality is very important to me. In general, I would describe my style as sporty with a touch of rock and roll and Indians' feeling. Hence, I especially like leather jackets, biker boots, fringes and hair accessories. Depending on my mood, I also like to dress more elegantly or edgy. Fashion's diversity is really interesting and I make use of that diversity every day.
What would you say that is the greatest satisfaction of being a fashion blogger? (Invitations to fashion events, interaction with people, gifts, etc.)
The most beautiful thing about blogging is receiving sincere compliments from readers and subscribers. In addition, I am a very interactive person who loves to get in contact with other people. Hence, all these new contacts are a great enrichment for me. Every person has a new story and different ideas. Getting to know those people and learning about their ideas, absolutely fascinates me.
