It was a coincidence, that photographer Helmut Havelka met model Liane. She joined her friend Celine, Helmut’s ‘house model’, for a shoot with Helmut. By this opportunity Helmut discovered, that Liane lives directly in his neighborhood and … what could be more to ask her for a test shooting. He also needed to ask Liane’s mother for her consent, cause Liane is just 14 years old.
The patience and perseverance, Liane has shown during the shoot, is for sure owed to 8 years of piano lessons, which Liane pursues with great passion.
Background of the shoot primarily was to test the possibilities of a relatively new lens, a wind machine and a separate light shaper, cause normally Helmut takes pictures outdoor and with available light.
As location for the shoot they chose, quasi outdoor, the flat roof behind Helmut’s apartment and a room inside the apartment. As props they used a dresser from a junk shop and a large mirror from a household liqidation.

For the shoot Helmut was armed with a Canon EOS 550D with Canon 50mm 1.8 and Canon 18-55 3.5-5.6 lenses as well as a Canon 430 EX II Speedlight, a lambency Flash Diffuser and a lightning tripod. As light control he used a tube, which was prepared from a commercial cardboard and pushed over the flash diffuser.
It was a ‘test’-shooting in the proverbial meaning. Helmut played freely with aperture, focusing, ISO and perspectives. He has tried a lot, much discarded, and gained a lot of knowledge. Helmut had some bullet points to follow. Main focus was the test. As a "byproduct" they agreed on one fixed image as a reward for the model. Everything else should be more or less incidental.

After the first test with the wind machine the outfit was changed, followed by tests with available light and backlight as well as the implementation of the fixed image for Liane. Subsequently followed by some settings with flash.
Then they went out onto the roof in the sun and different camera angles and perspectives have been tested.
After another outfit change they came to the final testing with light and wind, in which Helmut tried to implement the previous findings.
