The photos out of this session of photographer Matthias Weiss are dedicated to the hippie counterculture, which has its origin in the 60th in the United States. In January 1967, the Human Be-In in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco popularized hippie culture, leading to the Summer of Love on the West Coast of the United States, and the 1969 Woodstock Festival on the East Coast.
From the origin up to the present form this hippie series of Matthias shall draw a bow between the old and modern spirit of the hippie culture and style. His motivation was to catch the original hippie attitude of life ... the light way of life ... peace and love as it was based on in its beginning ... the hippie kind of ease, which still is used in many fashion styles. Matthias simply wanted to visualize the change of fashion from the past up to the modernity of today.
With a great location it was possible to realize the original spirit and modern factor at once. By using an combination of simple cloth and accessoires with modern styles Matthias tried to merge the original with the modern fashion style. Modernity could be best visualized by using new age architecture. To stay realistic, he hasn't tried to make it futuristic like almost found in the 70s.
All in all a very successful interpretation of the hippie style and its modern manifestations. Thank you for this excellent work Matthias and the opportunity to present it to our readers.
