getting summer ready

With summer here we all pay more attention to the condition of our feet, hands, and nails. Everyone wants their feet to look flawless in those summer sandals. I am going to give you some homemade recipes, and they are really easy to do with great results.

Picture
Let’s begin with the easiest at home beauty care ingredient, olive oil. Apply the olive oil every night before bed, start by rubbing the oil into your cuticles and then your nails. The olive oil absorbs nicely into the cuticles and nails after a few minutes. Doing this nightly will make your nails stronger, and looking moisturized. The great thing is you probably already have some olive oil in your kitchen.
Picture
A good scrub to use on your hands and feet is an apricot scrub. Here is what you will need 1\2 cup of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon, 2 tablespoons of apricot oil. Combine all the ingredients and massage into hands up to your wrists, also scrub into nail bed. The lemon juice will also help remove any nail stains. Repeat the process with your feet. After you rinse the scrub off apply your favourite cream to your hands and feet. Repeat this 1x week.
Another good scrub for your hands and feet is called, citrus scrub. You will need 1\4 cup of orange juice, 2 tablespoons of honey, 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon, 1\2 tablespoon of olive oil, and 1\2 cup of sugar. Mix into a paste and rub into hands for 2 minutes, then rinse well. Repeat the process on your feet as well.
Apply cream to hands and feet when done. Any extra scrub you have left you can keep it in a glass jar with a lid in the fridge; you can keep it for a week. You can do this scrub 1 to 2 x weeks. This next scrub is to be used on your feet only, and it’s a great exfoliator. Here is what you will need, 4 strawberries, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Mash up the strawberries with a fork and mix in the other ingredients. Then scrub feet for 2 minutes and rinse, then apply your favourite cream. Strawberries are high in alpha hydroxy acids, great for exfoliating.
Picture
My next summer ready recipe is sweet milk foot soak. You will need 1\2 cup of sugar, 2 tablespoons of moisturizing lotion, 2 cups of milk, and 7 cups of water. In a large saucepan heat the milk and water. When steaming add the sugar and lotion, and mix to a slightly soupy consistency. Allow it to cool, till the mixture is cool enough for you to place your feet in. pour into a bowl large enough to fit both feet, soak for 15 minutes. You can now rinse your feet or use some extra sugar to scrub your feet. Then rinse well and moisturize. You can also use a pumice stone after you soak your feet, to help remove extra skin. As always apply moisturizer after on your feet.
Picture
If your nails on your hands need some strengthening, try this nail strengthening soak. Take 2 egg yolks beaten, 1\4 cup of milk, and 1 tablespoon of honey. Mix ingredients in a bowl and soak nails for 15 minutes, then rinse well. After apply cuticle oil. Protein from the eggs and calcium from the milk will make those nails strong again. You can do this soak 2 to 3 x a week.
I have a nightly ritual that involves coconut oil. I put a good amount of coconut oil on my feet and toe nails after I shower, then I put on a pair of cotton socks. In the morning your feet will be super soft. I hope your feet and hands will be summer ready with these recipes. Enjoy trying them.

Mad Hippie skin care

3/6/2017

When I came across this skin care line I had my doubts. There are so many companies claiming they are the next miracle in skin care. The one thing that first attracted me to them was their packaging, it’s colourful and very eye catching. So I decided to give mad hippie a try, and my skin is benefiting from this decision.

Another thing that drew me to this skin care line was that they are vegan, GMO free, they do not test on animals, and they print using soy inks with %100 wind energy. I love that they are environmentally friendly and my favourite part is they do not test on animals.
Picture
I started using mad hippie on April 6th. The first step was there cream cleanser with jojoba, green tea, macadamia oil, and orchid extract. The first time I used it I noticed a little goes a long way; all you need is one push on the bottle to wash your whole face and neck. I also noticed how creamy and gentle it felt on my face. It didn’t dry out my skin like other face washes I’ve tried in the past. After cleansing my face and neck I applied the vitamin c serum, making sure to cover my entire face and neck. After you apply the serum wait five minutes before applying the face cream. From day one my skin felt softer and healthy. For my bed time routine I would again wash my face and neck with the cream cleanser. Then I would apply the vitamin A serum, and then let it soak into your skin for five minutes. After five minutes I would apply the face cream, wait a minute then apply the eye cream. My favourite part was the last step of applying the antioxidant facial oil, and you only need a little to cover your face and neck. The antioxidant facial oil has Argon oil, Goji, and Camu Camu, and many more good ingredients for the skin. I suggest using the vitamin A serum every second night for the first week, so your skin adjusts slowly to it. After a week you can use it nightly.
Picture
My skin is sensitive and can break out easily if it doesn’t like what I am applying to it, with this skin care line I didn’t get any break outs. As the days went by I kept following my daily skin care routine, my skin kept getting better and better. My skin began to get that healthy glow we all want. Their ingredients are gentle and natural, so even if you have sensitive skin this product is a good choice. I decided to use the eye cream once a day, but you can apply it twice a day.

The only thing I wish they would do is make the face cream, eye cream, and sun screen bottles larger. The serum bottles are the perfect size, since a little goes a long way. I haven’t tried their sunscreen yet but they have good reviews. I would recommend using the sunscreen daily, since the sun’s rays causes wrinkles over time. Overall I would recommend this skin care line of Mad Hippie; it’s great for all ages.

beauty products i love

I have discovered some beauty products that I absolutely adore. I still love making my homemade beauty recipes, but sometimes there are products that deserve to be mentioned. So this article will be dedicated to those products.
The first product I want to tell you about is from the beauty line Mad Hippie. I decided to try their vitamin C serum, and I was pleasantly surprised. Sometimes a company promises results with their products, but they never come through. The vitamin C serum was everything I needed in one bottle. The serum lightened old scars I had from acne, it reduced the signs of wrinkles and it refreshed my skin. I started seeing results with this serum after using it daily for one week. Always apply it right after washing your face. I would apply it all over my face and neck and let it soak in for a few minutes, and then I would apply my face cream to my face and neck. I cannot say enough good things about this vitamin C serum; it is perfection in a bottle. I am so impressed with their vitamin C serum that I am going to try their face cream and eye cream next.
Picture
The next product I came across was by NAVAN skin care. They also offer a variety of beauty products. I decided to try the retinol 2.5% anti-wrinkle serum. After 2 days I found it wasn’t right for my skin, so I decided to have a woman who was older than me give it a try. She used it daily and it became part of her morning routine. She washed her face then applied the retinol right after, and then she waited a few minutes and applied her usual make up. She told me she could start seeing improvements in the texture of her skin, it reduced age spots and wrinkles. She was pleased with this retinol serum. She saw more improvements day after day.

For the next product I was excited to try was by the company Forever. They have many products to choose from but I will talk about my favourite ones.  The first one I tried was there Aloe Propolis Crème. The cream is thick in texture but goes on smoothly, and it helps maintain beautiful skin tone and texture. I would apply it to my face and neck every morning after washing my face. It moisturizes perfectly and soothes any irritation your skin may have. It has aloe vera, bee propolis and camomile. The second product I tried was the aloe vera gelly. It’s a soothing clear gel that soothed my skin, and lubricated my sensitive skin safely. I applied it nightly after washing my face and it calmed any irritations. Their products are also certified organic and they do not test on animals. The next product of theirs that I tried was there aloe moisturizing lotion with collagen and elastin. It can be used all over the body including the face and hands, and It leaves the skin feeling soft and supple.
Picture
The last product I tried was by younique, there moodstruck precision eyeliner pencil. I liked using it because it went on smoothly and even after a few hours it did not disappear, no need to keep retouching it. I used the colour perfect which is a blackish brown colour.

These are just a few of my favourite beauty products. I hope you enjoy trying them. I would like to thank Lisa Cook from forever and she can be reached to place orders at, [email protected].  Another thank you goes out too Brittany Morrison from Younique, her link to place orders are youniqueproducts.com\BrittanyMichealaMorrison. I would also like to thank Mad Hippie and Navan skin care.
I wanted to talk a little about why the month of March is so important to me and others, it is endometriosis awareness month. 176 million women suffer with this illness all over the world. It is very painful and it has no cure. On March 25th in cities around the world women and their supporters will march for awareness, better health care, more understanding and most of all a cure. If you see yellow ribbons all month, that is our symbol for endometriosis awareness.

Beauty Made Simple

With winter here full force our skin and hair needs extra care. Our skin in the winter can appear and feel dry and lacking that glow we love. I will suggest products and do it yourself beauty fixes for these issues.

To bring the glow and moisture back to your face using a scrub is a great option. This scrub is simple and can be made at home. Take some organic coconut sugar and organic coconut oil, one teaspoon of the organic coconut sugar and a teaspoon of coconut oil and mix together. Then apply to your face all over and scrub in a circular motion including your neck. After rinse with warm water and then a splash of cool water to close pours. You can repeat this 2x week.

Picture

Another great recipe to get glowing skin on your face, try this at home face mask. 1 teaspoon of coconut oil, 1 teaspoon of honey, and 1 teaspoon of lemon, mix all together and rub all over face and neck and leave on for 40 minutes. Then rinse with warm water and a splash of cool water. You can do this mask 1x week.

For your hair I suggest using organic apple cider vinegar. Take 2 cups of water and add ¼ cup of organic apple cider vinegar, 5 drops of %100 pure geranium essential oil, 5 drops of lavender essential oil. Mix all ingredients together and wash hair and rinse, then pour mixture all over your scalp and the rest of your hair. Rub into scalp gently and then leave in hair for 5 to 10 minutes, then rinse out well. No need to apply conditioner after you rinse out the mixture. As soon as you get out of shower wrap your hair in a towel and leave it wrapped for 20 minutes. Let hair air dry and only use a wide tooth comb in hair when it’s almost all dry. The next day your hair will be smooth and shiny. This rinse conditions hair and removes product build up from your hair. Repeat 1x a week unless you have really oily hair then do it 2x week.

I recently came across this wonderful shampoo and conditioner by L’Oréal. It’s called L’Oréal Paris hair expertise, arginine resist. It has strengthening action arginine protein. It nourishes root to tip, makes hair stronger and helps resist breakage. It also helps prevent hair from falling out, it also leaves hair baby soft and smooth. They also make a replenishing hair mask. You can use it 1x a week. It adds extra moisture to dry or processed hair.

For a good body scrub I use 2 cups of Epsom salts and 1\2 cup of %100 pure grape seed oil. Mix together and put it in a glass mason jar with a lid. Use all over your body to exfoliate, but not on your face. This scrub will not only exfoliate but it will also moisturize your skin.
Picture

Picture

If you’re looking for something to moisturize your nails and help them grow, and make them stronger try castor oil. Rub on nails nightly and you should start seeing results in about a week.

I hope you find my suggestions helpful. I will be back soon with more suggestions.

If you are looking to give unique gifts this holiday, maybe homemade beauty gifts are an option for you. These gifts are extra special because they will be made by you. The recipes are easy to follow and the person will be impressed with your beauty product making skills.

I have come up with four recipes that are all unique. The first recipe is an eye serum. The ingredients you will need for this recipe are, 1/8 cup of organic coconut oil, 1/8 cup sweet almond oil, and 1/2 tablespoon of pure vitamin e. Mix all together and you can put it in a plastic container with a lid, as shown in the picture. Apply the eye serum every night and make sure to shake it before each use, and it will smooth the skin, hydrate the skin, and help with wrinkles. Apply with a clean finger. You can place a gift tag on the plastic container with the directions on how to use the eye serum.
Picture
The next recipe is a homemade citrus scrub. These are the ingredients you will need, lemon essential oil 15 to 20 drops, 1/2 cup of sweet almond oil, or 1/2 cup of grape seed oil instead of the sweet almond oil, and 1/2 cup of white sugar. Mix all ingredients together and place in containers with a lid, and always remember to put a gift tag on the container explaining how to use the product you have made. This scrub can be used on your hands and your entire body; do not use on your face. It will exfoliate your skin leaving it smooth and smelling lemony fresh. You can use this scrub 1 or 2x a week.
Picture
Picture
Now we will create a face toner that will moisturize deep clean, help with acne and wrinkles. The ingredients you will need are 4 spoonful’s of rose water, %100 pure geranium essential oil 5 drops, and 3 drops of vitamin e oil. Mix all together and place in a plastic container and they can just put some of the toner on a cotton ball, and rub all over face and neck. Then repeat again with a clean cotton ball. Also apply gently under the eyes. Repeat this every night before bed. Shake bottle before each use.
The last recipe is for a solid perfume. The ingredients are vanilla oil 50 drops, 50 drops of sandal wood essential oil. Also 4 table spoons of beeswax pellets and 4 tablespoons of sweet almond oil. Now melt the beeswax in a double boiler over low heat. Once melted add sweet almond oil. Remove from stove once wax and oil are blended well. The temperature should be warm, if too hot let cool before adding the essential oils. You can pour it into a tin, locket or anything you would want to have solid perfume in.

I hope you love these recipes and that they will make great beauty gifts for family and friends. I will be back in the new year, with new recipes and product suggestions.

As I mentioned last time I like to create homemade beauty recipes, but I also enjoy trying different products. In this article I will share more homemade beauty recipes and products I have tried and recommend.
I will start with my three favourite shampoos and conditioners. So you know I try all the products I recommend. One of my favourite shampoo and conditioners is by Marc Anthony, called oil of Morocco(Aragan oil). They are infused with keratin, which is a building block in hair, and it is also sulfate free. It leaves your hair smooth and soft and smelling lovely. My second favourite is by Dove Advanced hair series. It helps smooth the hair and reduce frizz, leaving your hair healthy and shiny. My third favourite is by TRESemme expert selection and it’s one of their new releases. It has no dyes, no parabens, and is silicon free. The one I use is coconut milk and aloe vera, nourish and replenish. I love the smell and the way it leaves my hair soft and healthy.

Now I will tell you my favourite creams for your face. I love the new one by Aveeno active naturals, absolutely ageless. It is applied before bed to your face and neck and it’s a restorative night cream, your skin absorbs products best at night. You apply it after you have washed your face and it is applied every night, you will notice a difference in your skin in about a week.

Another face cream, I have always liked, is by Olay Regenerist, regenerating serum. It can be applied to your entire face and neck, but I like to use it mostly under my eyes and eye lids. I always buy the one for the face because the bottle is bigger and you get more bang for your buck. The one just for the eyes is a lot smaller and doesn’t last as long, and they both work exactly the same.

Another great product for the face is by Burt’s Bees, BB cream with Noni extract. It also has SPF 15 in it. It protects your skin from the damage of the sun, as it minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It goes on smoothly and gives you light coverage instead of a heavy foundation, and it’s 99.9% natural.

Now I will talk about homemade recipes that you can make in your own kitchen. I will start with a really easy one. If you are looking for a 100% natural deodorant try using a lime. Take a lime and cut it in half and rub it all over your clean underarms, then allow to dry. It will keep you smelling fresh and dry for hours. Another homemade recipe that is easy to put together is for your face, this face mask will leave your skin looking radiant.  You will need ½ cup plain oatmeal, two big spoonful’s of honey, two spoonful’s of lemon, and three big spoonful’s of rosewater. Mix all together well and apply to clean dry face and neck, leave on for thirty minutes and then rinse off with warm water. Then as always a splash of cold water to close the pours, repeat 1x a week. My last recipe is a combination of homemade and product. Take two peeled avocados and smash them up with a fork in a bowl. Once they are are smashed up add your favourite conditioner to the avocado. Mix together well and apply to hair from top to ends of hair, massaging gently into hair. Then wrap hair with plastic wrap and leave in for one hour. After rinse out with warm water, then cool water. Your hair will look and feel healthy. Repeat 1x a week.
I hope you enjoyed the recipes and product suggestions. Stay tuned for my next article with more homemade and product suggestions.

natural homemade beauty recipes

I'm Patricia. Like many other women i got frustrated with not finding the right products to use on my body. I began putting together simple homemade recipes to use at home, and I found I liked creating new recipes that actually worked. I choose what to put on my skin and that feels great. I also love products, it's a balance. I use home made recipes and products. It's all trial and error. But I can guide you and share homemade recipes with you, if that's the route you want to go. I can also suggest products that I have used and liked. You won't be sorry and neither will your skin and hair. Welcome to my world of beauty.
Over the years women including myself have had so many options when it comes to beauty resources. Thousands of beauty treatments and face creams, one can get lost in all the choices available. In my search I decided to go a different route and started making my own beauty recipes at home. Most of the ingredients I already had in my own kitchen. The positives of making your own beauty treatments are that you decide every ingredient that goes on your body. I can be creative and come up with new recipes as I need them. I have recipes that will treat you from head to toe, and it will leave your body with smooth soft skin and hair.
Picture
One of my favourite recipes is a very simple one, honey and plain yogurt face mask. Take one large spoonful of plain yogurt and a small spoonful of honey, mix them together and apply to a clean dry face and neck. Make sure to massage into the skin and cover entire face and neck, and then leave on for 45 minutes. Then rinse off with warm water until all the mask is rinsed off, and then splash your face with some cool water to close your pours. This mask will leave your face smooth and hydrated. The lactic acid in the plain yogurt is a good antiaging agent, and the honey disinfects and moisturizes the skin. Another easy beauty treatment is as simple as using an ice cube. Take an ice cube and rub over your entire face and neck for 20 seconds, repeat this daily. It will close your pours and over time it will make your skin look younger too. Although I enjoy making my own beauty recipes I still use store bought items as well, it’s a balance. As you will see I have homemade recipes for the hair right down to your toes. You can pamper your whole body from the comfort of your own home.

Picture
So let’s begin with your hair. For soft hair take pure aloe Vera from an aloe plant if possible, and some virgin olive oil. Add 4 spoonful's of aloe and 4 spoonful's of virgin olive oil, and then mix them together well. Apply to dry hair from the top of your head to the tips of your hair, then massage into scalp and hair. Leave in the hair for 45 minutes then wash and condition, Repeat 2xa week. Another moisturizing hair mask you can try, and ladies it’s a good one. Take two large eggs and crack them in a bowl and then add 4 spoonful’s of grapeseed oil, and then 3 spoonful's of coconut oil. Melt the coconut oil in the microwave first and then let it cool off. When the coconut oil is cooled off mix the ingredients together, then apply to dry hair from root to tips, as your applying it massage it gently into your scalp and hair. Then wrap hair with plastic wrap and put a towel around your shoulders. Leave in hair for one hour and then shampoo and condition as normal. After the treatment your hair will be baby soft, and remember when washing hair use cool water so it doesn’t cook the eggs. Repeat the treatment every 10 days. Another great hair mask to moisturize your hair is milk and honey, Take two cups of whole milk and heat it in the microwave until it is a little warm. Then add two spoonful’s of honey into the milk, mix well then pour over dry hair massaging it in as you pour over hair making sure all your hair is coated. Cover hair with plastic wrap for 20 minutes, then shampoo and condition as usual and repeat 1x a week.

Picture
As a toner and anti-aging face mask I enjoy using lemons. Take a fresh lemon and squeeze it into a cup, add a few big spoonfuls of water and mix together. Take a cotton ball and dip into the cup and apply all over your face and neck, then take another cotton ball and repeat. You can apply the lemon mask at bed time and leave on overnight, or start by leaving it on for 40 minutes. After rinse off with warm water and then a splash of cool water, then apply your regular face cream. You can repeat this mask 2x week.

To reduce inflammation or redness on your face try rosewater. It is great as a toner as well. Apply daily with a cotton ball.

Another great natural toner for the face ladies is right in your fridge. Take two eggs and crack open in a bowl separating the whites from the yolk of each egg. Then apply the egg whites to a clean dry face. You can apply it with a cotton ball or a clean blush brush, and apply to entire face and neck. Leave on for 40 minutes and then rinse off with warm water and as I always suggest splash your face with some cold water.

Then put on your favourite face cream. Repeat 1x week.

Now we will move on to the skin on your body which is equally important, right ladies. For dry skin add a can of coconut milk to your bath and blend in. soak in the bath for 15 minutes 2x a week and you will have smooth soft skin.

Picture
Another bath remedy for soft skin and to ease those sore muscles, use 2 cups of Epsom salts, 1 cup of sea salt, and 1cup of baking soda. Mix all together in the bath and soak for 20 minutes. You can repeat this as often as you feel like it.

If you are looking for a good body scrub I have a good one for you, coffee body scrub. Take 1 cup of coffee grinds, 1 cup of raw sugar, ½ cup of coconut oil and mix well all together. This amount will make enough for two uses. This scrub can be used on the entire body except the face. With this scrub you will have a healthy glow, repeat 2x week.

We all want to show off our feet, here is a foot soak that will give you beautiful feet. It will soften dry skin and take care of any foot odour you may have. If you already have a foot bath you can use that or you can use a bucket that fits both feet comfortably. Fill the foot bath or bucket with very warm water then add the following, ½ cup of Epsom salts, 5 drops of peppermint extract, 3 drops of tea tree oil, and 4 drops of lavender oil. Soak your feet for 30 minutes then remove feet and tap dry. Then apply your favourite foot cream and then apply a pair of cotton socks. Leave them on overnight, in the morning your feet will feel rejuvenated. Repeat 1x a week.

If you’re looking for simple acne treatment try lemon and aspirin. Take a fresh lemon and one non coated aspirin. Then put the aspirin on a plate and add 3 drops of lemon and mix together until it looks like a paste. Then apply to each pimple and leave on for 20 minutes then rinse off with warm water, then cold water. If you have sensitive skin instead of lemon use water. This will bring down the redness and swelling of the pimple. After apply your face cream and repeat 2x a week.

Another good thing to fight acne naturally is a gentle oatmeal mask. Put regular oatmeal in a bowl with hot water and mix well, then let sit until its cool. Once cooled off add 2 spoonful’s of honey, if you want you can also use 2 drops of tea tree oil. Apply to face and neck and leave on for 20 minutes, and repeat 2x a week.

Here is a great face mask for acne and anti aging that works great and is so simple. Take plain oatmeal and put ½ cup in the blender and mix until it's a powder. Then put into a bowl and add 2 big spoonfuls of plain yogurt and one big spoonful of honey. Mix all ingredients together and apply to face and neck. Leave on for one hour and then rinse off with warm water and then a splash of cool water. if you have trouble removing the mask use a wet face cloth and rub off gently. This mask fights acne and wrinkles all in one mask.

If you want a gentle lip scrub take a spoonful of brown sugar and 1 table spoon of honey, mix together then massage into lips for 2 minutes and then rinse off. You will have oh so soft lips, you can repeat this 2x a week. You can also use this mixture on your hands as a hand scrub.

After you scrub your hands for a minute or two, then apply hand cream and repeat when needed.

And here we are with Shatha's make up tips:
The most important tip about eyes is to go by the shape and color of your eyes. Picking an eye shadow color that goes with your eyes will always enhance them way more than the usual. There are different eye shadow recommendations for different eye colors. If you have blue eyes its best to go with something light, neutral tones always compliments blue eyes. Shades like champagne and coral work best. If you have grey eyes sooty, smoky shades enhance them. Shades like a misty gray or a silver blue. If you have brown eyes copper like shades work best. Use a gold or bronze eye shadow and bend to brow with a dark color to add even more enhancement. Using these easy tips will make heads turn and stare at those poppin eyes.
