Let’s begin with the easiest at home beauty care ingredient, olive oil. Apply the olive oil every night before bed, start by rubbing the oil into your cuticles and then your nails. The olive oil absorbs nicely into the cuticles and nails after a few minutes. Doing this nightly will make your nails stronger, and looking moisturized. The great thing is you probably already have some olive oil in your kitchen.
A good scrub to use on your hands and feet is an apricot scrub. Here is what you will need 1\2 cup of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon, 2 tablespoons of apricot oil. Combine all the ingredients and massage into hands up to your wrists, also scrub into nail bed. The lemon juice will also help remove any nail stains. Repeat the process with your feet. After you rinse the scrub off apply your favourite cream to your hands and feet. Repeat this 1x week. |
Another good scrub for your hands and feet is called, citrus scrub. You will need 1\4 cup of orange juice, 2 tablespoons of honey, 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon, 1\2 tablespoon of olive oil, and 1\2 cup of sugar. Mix into a paste and rub into hands for 2 minutes, then rinse well. Repeat the process on your feet as well.
Apply cream to hands and feet when done. Any extra scrub you have left you can keep it in a glass jar with a lid in the fridge; you can keep it for a week. You can do this scrub 1 to 2 x weeks. This next scrub is to be used on your feet only, and it’s a great exfoliator. Here is what you will need, 4 strawberries, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Mash up the strawberries with a fork and mix in the other ingredients. Then scrub feet for 2 minutes and rinse, then apply your favourite cream. Strawberries are high in alpha hydroxy acids, great for exfoliating. |
My next summer ready recipe is sweet milk foot soak. You will need 1\2 cup of sugar, 2 tablespoons of moisturizing lotion, 2 cups of milk, and 7 cups of water. In a large saucepan heat the milk and water. When steaming add the sugar and lotion, and mix to a slightly soupy consistency. Allow it to cool, till the mixture is cool enough for you to place your feet in. pour into a bowl large enough to fit both feet, soak for 15 minutes. You can now rinse your feet or use some extra sugar to scrub your feet. Then rinse well and moisturize. You can also use a pumice stone after you soak your feet, to help remove extra skin. As always apply moisturizer after on your feet.
If your nails on your hands need some strengthening, try this nail strengthening soak. Take 2 egg yolks beaten, 1\4 cup of milk, and 1 tablespoon of honey. Mix ingredients in a bowl and soak nails for 15 minutes, then rinse well. After apply cuticle oil. Protein from the eggs and calcium from the milk will make those nails strong again. You can do this soak 2 to 3 x a week. I have a nightly ritual that involves coconut oil. I put a good amount of coconut oil on my feet and toe nails after I shower, then I put on a pair of cotton socks. In the morning your feet will be super soft. I hope your feet and hands will be summer ready with these recipes. Enjoy trying them. |
