Since a while he is uploading some of his intense and expressive pictures to Streetfashion MagZZine's Flickr group. So we follow photographer Craig MacLean already for a longer time.
End of last year finally we took the opportunity to ask him for some photos and info out of his sessions with model Elizabeth Schon. |
I am a self taught photographer of over 35 years experience, although shooting with models is fairly new to me.
Many of the images I have submitted were shot with a Minolta XD5, with Ilford 100 or 400 film, the others were shot with a Sony Alpha 200. I develop my own film and scan the negatives with a Epson V600 scanner. All my post production is done in Lightroom CC. My first shoot with Elizabeth Schon used stark lighting, which came from a very basic(and cheap) portrait lighting kit. Two key lights and one fill light. It was my first attempt at serious lighting, and the idea was to capture a film noir kind of look. But mostly I use natural light. |
Elizabeth Schon is an extremely talented and gifted model, and I was very fortunate to find her. I struggle with depression and anxiety so contacting people and conveying my ideas is extremely difficult for me. Elizabeth is very understanding, and within minutes of beginning our first shoot, my fears and my own self-doubt melted away because of her. Creatively we just clicked. All I had to say was ‘drama’ and off we went. I think those particular images speak for themselves. |
As far as planning our shoots, it may be something as simple as having a prop. A couple of our shoots, were built around my car, a Ford Mustang, with no real set plan other than an attitude, and we start shooting. The car is really unimportant.
Elizabeth and I are planning another shoot for the near future.
