We discovered some photos of her and then had a look at her Instagram. We really like her attitude and charisma. That's why we asked her for an interview.
We were lucky and she agreed. So today we can introduce you model Tabitha Nelson, based in San Francisco, USA. Tabitha, please tell us a little bit about yourself to begin with. (How old are you, Where were you born and where do you live now, What is your profession and do you have other besides modeling? I am 25 years, although I’ve been told I still look like I’m 19! I’ll happily take the younger age appearance any day! I was born and raised in the beautiful Colorado Rocky Mountains and currently live in the wonderful city of San Francisco. Outside of modelling, I am a Human Resources professional at a tech company. And no, not many of my coworkers know about my modelling - they all still think I’m the scary HR person.Little do they know! |
What do you love most about modelling?
I love the creative aspect of modelling. I am not a creative person, despite how hard I try. However, I get the opportunity to become the vision of a designer, photographer, stylist, and creatives to bring it to life! One day I may be asked to be a blushing bride that is excited and nervous about their wedding, another day I am a high fashion runway model evoking power and confidence and the next day I’m running around in active wear smiling and loving exercise. The possibilities are endless and I love being able to make the vision a reality.

What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
The highlight of my career so far has been having the pleasure and opportunity to go to New York to walk for The Society’s production of New York Fashion Week. I modeled for some extremely talented designers and was able to experience a fashion show like I never had before. The energy and overall production was over the top, and exactly as I had wished for it to be! I had 4 shows in two days, and despite being exhausting, it was thrilling and I am looking forward to going back next season!

Tell us about some of your recent shoots.
I always keep busy and try to have one to two shoots every weekend and sprinkle a few others throughout the week. A recent one that was a ton of fun was a simple lifestyle shoot running around the streets of San Francisco! A photographer, Jack Goras, was visiting from Florida and we thought it would be fun to make our exploring a mini Photo-shoot. It turned into us finding so many places that I had never been, despite living in San Francisco for a year, and he shot some amazing photos of me. The great thing about this shoot was that there wasn’t any pressure or expectation, just exploring and finding places that would be fun to shoot. A higher production photo-shoot I did recently was around the concept of ‘Purple’. We had a very talented stylist, Pharoah Brand Fashion, Megan Nicol was our makeup and hair stylist, and the photographer was Jesse Garcia; this team created magic! It was an editorial outside in a rose garden and everyone simply clicked. The looks were stunning, everyone was fun and, as far as I know, it turned out really well. It was so recent I still haven’t seen the official outcome! |
What really goes on behind the scenes as a model?
Lots of selfies! When you’re getting ready for a shoot or show, it’s a really long process. Everyone thinks that these happen instantly, but not at all! For shows, you are sitting in a chair for hours, then going though a walk through, and trying to calm your nerves! During this time, you are talking to people and I am taking a ton of photos on my phone. I may not be able to post them at that moment, since the designers don’t want us spoiling the surprise, but I’ll post them later that evening after the show or I just keep it for myself! In that time of waiting is when you get the chance to meet amazing new and creative people! The team behind the scenes are the unsung hero’s of shows and they are truly lovely people! They make us models look incredible and we wouldn’t be able to do it without them. Thus I like being able to take selfies with everyone so I can look back and remember all the fun people that I had the privilege of meeting.
Which photographers in the industry do you most enjoy working with?
David Enrique is an up and coming photographer who I greatly enjoy working with in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is extremely talented and is able to capture me and other models really well. Fun fact: David was the second photographer i ever worked with and the first studio Photo-shoot I ever did! I was a nervous young-in not sure what the heck I was doing! David was still able to help me relax and realize that photo-shoots only work if you and the photographer can collaborate and work together. You, as a model, need to be willing to try different angles and the photographer has to be able to give you feedback if it’s working or not, and David gives that feedback.
I have also worked with some other incredibly talented photographers, but David was the first that came to mind!

Define your personal style. Extremely laid-back and casual! I love modelling and being fashionable, but in my everyday life I seriously look like a blob! I am a yoga-pants-hoodie-wearing-ponytail-life kind of gal. I think that since I get the opportunity to wear couture gowns and designers clothes when modelling I enjoy the simple side of things and don’t want to think too hard about the look. I think I look cute in athleisure type wear, and since that’s kind of stylish why mess with it, right? Who would you say is your 'style muse'? Again, since athleisure is my style, I suppose convenience and comfort is my style muse? But if there is a style I enjoy it would be Karlie Kloss. I think her look is very casual but chic and I feel like she’s very down to earth. She can walk a runway in her clothes and then sit and code, that’s pretty impressive! Vogue or Harper’s Bazaar? Vogue, for sure. |
Your favourite designer is… ?
I am all for supporting local designers, so one that I am in love with is Miss Velvet Cream bases out of Sacramento California. Her designers are called ‘Neocouture’ and are handmade using upcycled material. The pieces are bold and take you into a world full of wonder and possibilities that captures your imagination!

What do you hope to be doing in the next 5 years?
That’s a tough question for me as I’m more of a ‘go with the flow‘ and enjoy each moment type of person instead of planning every aspect of my life out. In the next five years, I hope to have modelled for Guess, walked in both LA and NY fashion week, and maybe doing more lifestyle work by then. You have to realize that in five years I’m going to be considered old in modelling (I’ll be 30!) so maybe starting a family? It’s still yet to be determined, but it will be a fun adventure getting there!
If you could be anywhere else but here, where would you go?
Greece, absolutely no question! I’m a bit of a nerd and Greek and Roman myths fascinated me as a child! I’ve checked Rome off my list, but need to head back to that corner of the world to see Greece.
