Serene, please tell us a little bit about yourself to begin with. How old are you? Where were you born and where do you live now? What is your profession and do you have other besides modelling?
Hej, my name is Serene Chen. I moved to Sweden 2013 and since then I lived in the picturesque wonderland, Osterlen. I am from a subtropical warm, east coastal city, Zhangzhou, China. Besides modelling I mainly study for my future profession- preschool educator. How long have you been a model and how did you start? Modelling is my free activity that I am in love with. I do that just for a very simple reason, I follow my instinct and get fire for it. I started the real modelling from 2020 April. Before that I shot with my friends for street fashion photos for one year. I just found that I got stuck with this passion and would like to develop it in a serious way. That’s why I started to get in touch with photographers here in Skåne, Sweden via a facebook group. I asked them if they were interested in working with me through TFP Then my modelling journey kicked off and rolled on. |
During shoots, what is often the most fun part, and what is the most challenging part?
During shoots there are two things I would like to bring up which I enjoy the most. Shooting exposes my mind, my emotions, and my creativity. For me it is more than an expression of aesthetics, there is voice and meaning in my picture. So I would like to express that through art. |
The second point is meeting the fabulous people. Both photographers and makeup artists. To build up a trustworthy relationship is the ground for teamwork. When I meet people, I am not only a model but also a listener. I am fascinated by their life story, such as how they stept into photography and how they kept their passion. Conversation about big and small things just shorten the distance between us. And we just get inspired by each which is the most important.

Have you travelled and lived in different parts of the world? How is modelling different in e.g. London or your area? Modelling in China is a very prosperous industry as well as the fashion industry, but I personally feel that they focus more on the young generation and celebrities. However, in my opinion, variation could be added. The standard nowaday is narrowed down to perfect shaped, young beautiful faces, the definition of beauty is way wider if we look at it from a global point of view and every human beings’ perspective. And I believe that women can glow at any age, it does not matter if she is 18 or if she is 80. That is why I got into this field when I already was 32, any age has its charm. |
What is your go-to outfit for daytime?
Somedays I put on high waisted jeans and a T-shirt together with a loose knitted cardigan to have an easy, casual look.
Somedays I go for a more elegant outfit, it could be an over knee one-piece dress with edged point boots, outside with a classic trench coat to give it an edgy look.
To summarise, It all depends on what I am going to do for the day. And also what kind of personality I want to show in public.
How do you master the art of posing?
I got inspiration from different media, such as fashion magazines, Vogue, Instagram, Pinterest, and I train myself daily in front of the mirror.
Posing is a type of language, this is how I communicate with the outside world. So there is thinking behind my poses.
What do you do to stay in shape?
I do Yoga. I am a fan of "Yoga with Adriene" on Youtube , I do some crazy and free dance movements with music, and some body training without equipment daily by following the Vlogger Pamela Reif.

What do you love most about modelling?
I love modelling because I see it is a way of discovering myself, and it is my artwork for creativity and inspiration.
I love modelling because it opens a new world. I always keep one eye on fashion. I would love to dig deeper in this field, sharpening my knowledge and competence in fashion.

Serene about Tomas
"Tomas Lissåker is edgy with his lighting, he can capture the feminine beauty of a woman. When I shot with him, we kept active interaction with each other. Thanks to that he could give a quick response to me as a model when he got an excellent shot, his emotion and energy boost up the atmosphere that makes me feel confident as well as wanting to keep giving my best performance." |
Tomas about Serene
"A shoot with Serene is always interesting because of that interaction. She brings ideas and concepts that are unique to her and her particular style. She also does not have the traditional movement pattern of a model, which often leads me as a photographer to angles and lighting that I hadn’t thought of using and the result is often very interesting." Makeup artist: Caisa Jönsson |
Serene about Freddie
"Freddie Sjöholm is very talented at creativity and colour shade, and his motto is he can only work with warm hearted people, because he is one as well! When I bring up the idea of black swan, he is getting busy directly hunting for haunted, desert ruins. and Our photo shooting just got its best effect because of the teamwork." Freddie about Serene
"I love working with Serene because from the start I just felt…wow! 5 shots and we have already nailed a top shot! She is caring and very professional. She wants to get that tiptop shot as much as I do. And not afraid of getting her nails dirty. I have worked with her 2 times and we are not done yet!" Makeup artist: For Chinese qipao and yellow and black dress: Lina Ling For black swan: Cecilia Tram |
