As part of our Christmas Calendar, all the way from Switzerland, we introduce to you model Lea Jones, based in Rhein Valley, Switzerland.
Lea, please tell us a little bit about yourself to begin with. How old are you? Where were you born and where do you live now? What is your profession and do you have other besides modelling?
I am 27 years old, born in Appenzell and since then I have been living in the beautiful Rhein Valley in Switzerland. After the Matura I studied at the University of Education and worked as a preschool teacher for 5 years. In the beginning only part time, because I was working as a model for 2 years as a secondary occupation. Altogether, modeling has been my great passion for about 6 years! Unfortunately, this is why I recently quit my job. My employer saw a role conflict between my profession and my hobby. I regret very much that in the 20th century the focus is not put on the work itself, especially since I have always worked with a lot of commitment and heart and the children were always a priority for me! |
What do you love most about modelling?
Modelling was always a perfect break from everyday life for me. It gives me self-confidence, strength, makes fun and enables me to be creative. I especially like the cooperation with photographers, visas and stylists. I think it's great to visit new areas and meet so many great people through my hobby. Furthermore I find the different ways of working totally exciting! What’s been the highlight of your career so far? A large advertising campaign for a painting company in Ticino, with building-sized posters and advertising pictures for company cars etc. What really goes on behind the scenes as a model?
That depends a lot on what kind of shooting it is. In free projects the atmosphere is very relaxed, usually you talk for half an hour or more if you haven't seen each other for a long time and the shooting is also very relaxed and often spontaneous. For larger projects, naturally, the first thing we do is exchange, style and make-up. The work around the shoot often takes longer than the picture taking itself. Which photographers in the industry do you most enjoy working with? The question is very difficult to answer - I made a lot of friends in the photo scene and like to work with a lot of them, so I won't mention individual names here. What is in your opinion the best spot for photo shoots in your area? Rheineck has a very sweet old town for street shots. And of course there are many beautiful outdoor spots in nature near the mountains - at the water, on mountains, fields and so on... Indoors it is getting more difficult here in the region. |
Tell us about some of your recent shoots. When I started working full-time as a teacher, I reduced my modeling activities and only accepted free projects out of passion. The last projects were a fashion shoot in Munich in a hotel and an outdoor shoot at home in Switzerland, where the photographer and friend came from Germany for a visit. Now that I'm going to find a new career direction I hope to work more in the modeling business again. Since one month I am in the model agency @cyrusmodels. |
Define your personal style.
At home I like a moody/casual style the most, like a big hoodie from my boyfriend. I love to wear his stuff! For daily stuff i would say my style is sporty and modern. Furthermore, I‘m more of a boots-, than a heel-girl. I don't collect shoes as much as girls do, but I have about 100 bodysuits.

Who would you say is your 'style muse'?
I must confess that I don't have anything like a "muse". I just wear what I enjoy and what I like, but if I had to mention a name, maybe most likely Gigi Hadid.

What do you hope to be doing in the next 5 years?
That's the perfect question. I plan to do a Bachelor in media design and earn money with modeling on the side. I would also like to work for a media agency or to start my own business at some point after my studies.
