My name is Daniel Kontakiewicz, I am 43 years old. I was born in Ketrzyn, Poland. Now I live in Olsztyn, Poland. By profession I am a freelance business advisor in the area of finance and controlling. Photography has always fascinated me, but I started my journey as a photographer 3 years ago, after I bought my first DSLR camera. At the beginning I photographed mostly landscapes and after a year I decided to develop in portrait photography.
In the first half of 2020, due to the pandemic, I significantly reduced the number of photo shoots. After that I returned to the photo shootings. The session at the airport was one of the first serious sessions this year. The session at the airport was very special to me, because I had it in my head for a very long time. I knew that there would be a lot of perfect places at the airfield in Olsztyn to make fantastic portraits.
It was a spontaneous photo shoot and in a short time we created a working team of two photographers, two models and one Makeup artist. We worked separately in two pairs, each with one photographer and a model. After receiving the airport's approval, we quickly set the date for the photo session. We didn't need a lot of equipment, because we planned to work with the ambient light. This was my first photo shoot with Valentina. She is a very talented and experienced model, so I was not worried about the effects of our work.
I used my Canon 6D Mark II with Canon 85mm f1.8 lens for all shots during this shoot. I always work in full manual mode. I prefer low aperture values (f1.8-f2.8), short exposure times (less than 1/180 of a second) and single point autofocus, because it gives great results in portrait photography.
For post processing I use Adobe Photoshop. I do the skin retouch mostly with frequency separation and dodge & burn. Photoshop is a great tool, but it must be used wisely so that the final result is as natural as possible. I always do my best to reflect the true beauty of the model.

Why ZZ Loves It
We love the special location that you dont't get to see very often when it comes to a photo shoot. The pictures on an airfield, combining an old fashioned biplane with a model in an elegant outfit just seem like they are taken out of a Bond movie. The lighting, make up and especially the stealthy look on the last picture makes us believe that Valentina could be the next Bond girl. Being able to execute such a project and suceeding with the combination of all components such as the model sitting on the wing of the plane as if it would be the most natural thing in the world whilst maintaining the classy Bond vibe.
We are happy to be able to showcase these pictures of Daniel and Valentina as part of our Advent calendar.
