Some of you might remember him from our online cover back in September 2017, if not we introduce to you photographer Colin Davidson based in Dubai. For this particular shoot he and the model went to a rather mysterious location, the Al Awir Plane Crash Site in Dubai.

What inspired you to do this photo shoot?
I had seen several images of the site, which is clouded in mystery. Rumours range from it being a genuine crash site, others being that the items of a crashed plane were purchased and placed there to attract tourists. The latter seems very unlikely given there is not much around near the location but no one really knows.
Tell us about the planning process of the shoot – e.g. how did you prepare?
The shoot was planned a week or so in advance, with temperatures starting to soar in Dubai, we were keen to work with one another and collaborate using this as a location.
Who did you choose to work with and why?
Just the model on this occasion, Irina Lobacheva
How and why did you choose this exact location?
I had researched the location, know it would be best to shoot in the morning if possible, as it would be quieter and give a chance to take some shots from various angles within the area
What camera equipment and which camera settings did you use on this shoot?
I shot with a Nikon D750 and a few different lenses in order to vary the shot. Lenses used were 50mm, 16-35mm and 70-200mm
How did you set up the lighting – e.g. did you only use natural light or any artificial
light, and if so, what lighting equipment did you use?
We used natural light on this occasion

Why ZZ Loves It
Apart from the unusual and mysterious location we really love the contrast and darker tone to some of the images. Colin took great advantage of the shadows using the old planes and wreckage as cover and light diffuser.
